What would be a good travel insurance plan for a large group?

Kateri from Omaha asks:
This question comes from Kateri, a supervisor at our sister company, Insuractive. She asks: Dan, my father is renting a house in Colorado for our family ski trip in December — seven nights at $3,000 a night. There are 29 of us who will be traveling. What would be a good travel insurance plan for us?

Dan answers:
We insure dozens of families each year with our Group Travel Protection Lite travel insurance. This plan, which is available to groups of 10 people or more, would be a good choice. Taking the $21,000 trip cost and dividing that by 29 travelers, we get roughly $725 per person. Premium per person at that trip cost level is $33.28, or $965.12 total premium.

Group Travel Protection Lite provides trip cancellation coverage for sickness or injury involving you, your traveling companion, or your family member and trip interruption coverage should something happen while you are on the trip. If someone were to become ill or injured and could not make the trip, the entire group could cancel or just that particular family unit could cancel. The plan also provides up to $10,000 per person of secondary medical insurance which could come in handy to cover the possibility of out-of-network medical expenses and co-pays that may not be covered by a person’s regular health insurance.

Had a great experience purchasing trip insurance. The agent was very friendly, helpful, and fully explained the different options. Will be back! - Robert K.
