Save Money by Planning Your Autumn Vacation Now

Published: Apr 3, 2024

I can imagine what you’re saying right now. “It’s only April. Why are you talking about autumn vacation planning?”

The reason is simple. You should be planning your fall-trip destination now if you want to save the most money. And considering how much vacations cost these days, shouldn’t it be a priority to save as much as possible?

A 2024 CNBC article says you should book international flights out as far as six months in advance in order to maximize savings potential and at least three months for domestic flights. This is due to the law of supply versus demand. Basically, by purchasing far in advance, the demand for those plane seats has not risen like it will as the departure day nears. So, with the supply of available seats high and the demand low, prices generally are lower.

It’s similar with hotel reservations. According to The Points Guy, booking reservations further out can save hassle, anxiety and even some money.

Even with proper advanced planning, vacations come at a significant cost. For example, the average cost for a single vacationer in the United States is $1,984. It’s even more for international trips and more still for couples, families and groups.

That’s a significant amount. Does it stress you out to think about the potential for losing that much money? It could happen under a number of potential scenarios. You could become ill. Your destination could experience a natural disaster like a hurricane, tsunami or volcano eruption. Or, political unrest could make travel to your location dangerous.

In all of the above-mentioned scenarios, it’s likely you won’t be able to take your trip and any nonrefundable purchases are simply lost unless you have protected your investment. But how do you do that? Travel insurance is the answer per Dan Drennen, Director of Sales and Marketing at Travel Insurance Center®.

“Travel insurance coverage does more than just protect your travel investment,” says Drennen. “It provides peace of mind, and that alone is worth its weight in gold.”

But where do you go to get coverage? And how do you know the coverage you get is adequate for your needs and budget? According to Dan, the key is to work with a reputable travel insurance agent. “Good travel insurance agents have your best interest at heart,” Dan says. “They do the research on your behalf to find suitable plans to meet your objectives.”

How much does it cost to go through a travel insurance agent? Agents like Dan and his team of travel insurance experts don’t charge to help clients. Instead, they earn a commission if you purchase coverage through them. So, you can get travel investment protection and peace of mind without paying somebody to get it for you.
