Does travel insurance cover cancellation because of anxiety?

Published: Nov 20, 2015

T.L. from Florida asks: My husband, brother and I are taking a trip in August. Sometimes my brother has anxiety issues. Does travel insurance cover cancellation because of anxiety?

Dan's Answer:

A close look at the exclusions section of a standard travel protection policy reveals this would not be covered by a standard plan. Typically the exclusions language found in the standard policy will read: “Losses due to mental, psychological, or nervous disorders including anxiety, depression, neurosis or psychosis.” This language typically varies by company but some coverage is available in the form of a Cancel For Any Reason policy (CFAR). A CFAR policy could return up to 75% of the insured trip cost should you have to cancel due to a reason not listed under the standard policy Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption policy language.

Always check the exclusions within the Description of Coverage for the plan you are considering. On page nine of this document, you’ll find a list of commonly found exclusions; these are from the RoamRight Preferred plan.

Had a great experience purchasing trip insurance. The agent was very friendly, helpful, and fully explained the different options. Will be back! - Robert K.
