Trip Protection Insurance FAQs

What is trip protection?

Trip protection is a combination of travel insurance and 24-hour emergency assistance services designed to give you peace of mind when you travel. Whether you are traveling in the United States or abroad, you can have peace of mind knowing that you have a travel protection plan. We offer a variety of products and plans from the top travel insurance carriers to meet all types of travel needs.

What should I include when calculating the prepaid nonrefundable trip costs?

Nonrefundable costs include the total sum of all of your trip payments that would be forfeited due to cancellation prior to trip departure. Possibly cruise, tour, Eurorail, or airline ticket costs. Be sure to check with your travel coordinator to determine what costs are nonrefundable for your particular trip.

Credit cards and homeowner's policies?

Most credit cards don't provide trip cancellation or built-in medical coverage, nor will credit cards reimburse for inconveniences caused by travel delays. Your credit card may cover some costs associated with baggage delay or damage, but only if you purchased your trip with that credit card.

Won't my credit card, homeowner's policy, or domestic medical insurance provide coverage when I'm traveling?

Not necessarily. You should check with your credit card company, homeowner's insurance, and your health care policy benefits administrator before you travel to assess what they will cover in case you have an emergency.

Health insurance?

Most traditional domestic health insurance plans limit coverage for out of country medical expenses to emergency-related costs, have high deductibles and co-pays for emergency treatment abroad; and don't cover out-of-country emergency medical transportation in cases of life-threatening illness where medical evacuation may be required.  A medical evacuation, alone, can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Especially from overseas.
