British Foreign Commonwealth Office recommends travel insurance
Created 7/19/2010
The UK's Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) has released a startling report that shows British travelers are frequently unprepared for situations that may come up while abroad. As a result, the FCO has recommended travel insurance for all those going on business overseas.
The 2010 British Behaviour Abroad Report found that many travelers got themselves into situations that could have been easily prevented with travel insurance or common sense. It also found that 19 percent travel without travel insurance, and that UK travelers spend more time cleaning their house before they leave than researching local laws.
"This report shines a light on the number of Britons who get into difficulty abroad each year. The worrying fact is that so many of these situations are preventable. Helping out Britons in trouble abroad is part of our job, but we can't get you out of jail or pay your hospital bills," said Jeremy Browne, the Foreign and Commonwealth minister, before adding: "A bit of preparation before you go, such as arranging travel insurance and checking our website, will ensure you get the most out of your trip without bad memories and big bills."
Browne's words are surely good advice for any travelers, whether they are visitors to the U.S. from Britain or from another country.
