Family friendly beaches in Hawaii
Created 7/9/2010
Families who travel with small children have special considerations when booking a trip. Not only do they want to make sure there's enough to keep the kids entertained, but all areas must be family friendly and above all, safe. One way to give families piece of mind is purchasing a travel insurance policy that will cover the whole family. Another is to select destinations that are suitable for children.
The islands of Hawaii, for example, were recently rated as the top family destinations in a poll by the travel website Virtuoso. However, not every beach on the island is a good choice for those traveling with small children. Apart from considerations like convenience, popularity and size, families also must find beaches with safe, shallow waters and weak tides to ensure the safety of all.
With that in mind, the San Francisco Chronicle recently picked some of the best beaches in Hawaii for families. Many resorts include private beaches that are perfect for families, but the beaches on the list are all public.
Ha'Puna Beach on Hawaii's Big Island will allow kids plenty of space to play, as it is the longest and widest sandy beach on the island. But families who like a little variety should head to Kama'ole Beach Park on Maui, which is actually three beaches of varying size and water depth.
