Created 7/6/2010
While the worldwide panic over the H1N1 virus, typically known as swine flu, has died down, the deadly virus is still infecting travelers around the world. Those who plan to travel to at-risk areas, like India, should ensure they are covered by their travel insurance.
India only recently received a vaccine for H1N1 made within the country, having previously imported the innoculation. Swine flu has claimed 1,601 lives in India so far, according to the Hindustan Times.
The disease is strengthened by the country's monsoon season, with 16 deaths in the last week alone. Ten of the deaths were from the state of Kerala.
Nasovac, developed by the Serum Institute of India, hit store shelves today. The vaccine will protect against the disease and can be administered to children over the age of three.
According to Live Science, swine flu killed an estimated 12,000 people worldwide, and while that number is far less than originally feared, the illness is still a threat in some areas.
Many travel insurance plans carry a health insurance policy that will provide in the case of illness while abroad.
