Visitors to the U.S. can stay with Val Kilmer
Created 6/28/2010
One thing that trips to the United States affords foreign visitors is a chance to glimpse some of the country's famous Hollywood stars. Now, thanks to a permit granted in the state of New Mexico, they can also choose to stay with one.
According to ABC, the famous actor has recently obtained authorization to turn his 5,970 acre ranch into a private resort. Kilmer has owned the Pecos River Ranch, about 25 miles east of Santa Fe, since 1996.
The move was protested by several residents of New Mexico, angry with the actor for disparaging comments he made about the state in previous interviews. Kilmer maintains he was misquoted and recently reached out to the community by supporting local schools and homeless shelters. The ACLU defended Kilmer, saying his comments should not affect his ability to be granted permits.
Kilmer has said he wants to keep the area exclusive and run it as a bed and breakfast. The actor plans to charge guests $200 a night to stay at the ranch, which also offers activities like cattle wrangling.
