Yellowstone grizzly bear kills hiker
Created 6/22/2010
A grizzly bear killed a man just outside Yellowstone National Park, highlighting the dangers of hiking near wild animals. Those who plan to hike on their vacations may want to consider looking at travel insurance plans that include medical expenses or life insurance policies.
Authorities say the man was hiking not far from his home when he was apparently slain by a grizzly bear. A local research team was doing a study on grizzly bears in the region and had tagged one bear in the exact same area earlier in the day, according to the Associated Press.
"There's a very, very high probability that it was this bear," grizzly bear expert Chris Servheen told the Associate Press, reasoning that it was highly unlikely that another adult male would intrude on that bear's territory.
The bear was outfitted with a radio collar by the research team, which plans to trap and test the bear to see if it is indeed the killer.
Authorities will launch an investigation to ensure that the researchers followed procedure by placing adequate warning signs about the bears in the area.
Tragedy like this is sudden and unfortunate, but travel insurance that accounts for accidental death can help ease the financial burden on families.
